Beverage capsule filling device and capsule filling methoddrinks5OBJECT OF THE INVENTION
The purpose of the present application is to register a device for filling conventional capsules of drinks and a method for filling beverage capsules which incorporates notable innovations.
More specifically, the invention proposes the development of a device that allows a simple and clean filling, and also a method of filling the capsules which due to its simple characteristics facilitates its use in a domestic or office environment,
15 particularly for coffee makers of known type.
BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION
Coffee makers that produce a coffee or a beverage from the
20 infused with the ingredients contained in a disposable capsule. Each time a drink is made it is necessary to use a capsule that has to be purchased previously. In general, this can be relatively expensive compared to other traditional coffee brewing systems. It also requires having a forecast of sufficient stock not to run out of capsules. Another drawback is that the user does not
25 is free to choose the contents of the capsules, so you cannot control the organoleptic characteristics of the beverage to your liking.
With the aim of reusing already infused capsules, more or less rudimentary proposals for a domestic / office environment and other more complex ones for 30 small coffee producers have been made known.
In the domestic case, these proposals should theoretically allow filling and closing capsules to a user with a relatively low and simple cost (not so often on many occasions). Additionally, it should be taken into account that they are impractical and 35 solutions that require a very high filling time per capsule. Sometimes they are used

methods such as filling the capsule with a spoon, which means a loss of product, dirties and coffee is not pressed evenly. The capsule is not held anywhere, and therefore there is a risk of product spillage before being closed with a closure foil. It also involves the use of closure sheets with some type of adhesive
5 to join with the filled capsule, with which it is necessary to acquire specific closure sheets provided with adhesive or specific forms to guarantee the bonding of the sheet to the capsule during the infusion process of the ingredient. The use of specific sheets with adhesive also implies that the capsules must be washed correctly to remove the adhesive residue.
10 Other proposals include the use of specific capsules with an openable lid, usually made of plastic that have to be filled, for example, with a spoon, so that the drawbacks mentioned above for domestic solutions, the fact of having to buy the said capsules must be added specific with a limited number of
15 uses
As for the proposals for small coffee producers, these are complex electronic devices that allow refilling coffee capsules for later commercialization. They are aimed at small coffee producers or distributors who
20 want to market their own coffee with their own brand. They require a relatively acceptable investment cost if it can be passed on to a large number of units sold but that is too high for an end consumer. These solutions are not suitable for a particular user at the domestic level.
25 There is therefore an obvious need for a simple, robust and reliable capsule filling device, therefore with an acceptable acquisition cost for most particular users.
DESCRIPTION OF THE INVENTION
The present invention has been developed in order to provide a device and method that solve the aforementioned drawbacks, also providing additional advantages that will be apparent from the description that follows.

In the present invention when referring to the ingredients or beverage product, preferably ground coffee should be understood, although the use of other food products necessary for the preparation of an edible beverage is not ruled out.
The use of the terms of upper, lower, upper, lower, lateral positioning, etc. It is to be understood in the present application in relation to a condition of use of the invention.
It should be noted that the capsule is not part of the object of the present application, and that since it is filled, it is capable of being carried out on capsules that have not been previously used or others that are reused.
It is therefore an object of the present invention a device for filling beverage capsules, capsules of the type comprising a cup that can be linked to a closure sheet, which comprises a support which in turn comprises a base linked to at least one wall. lateral thus defining a cavity capable of accommodating a capsule to be filled, the support comprising positioning means for capsule; further comprising a cover as a cover for said cavity, the cover in turn comprising a piston body and a piston holder body, in which the piston body has an oblong configuration and with a recess at least partially arranged along the piston body, and the piston holder body comprises a free passage as an opening in which the piston body is slidably disposed, comprising elastic means between the piston body and the holder body - piston, having provided means for holding the sheet configured for fixing a sheet in a coupling condition between the support and the cover, the cover comprising compression means arranged at least partially in the recess and capable of contacting the sheet in a coupling condition, the piston body further comprises cutting means oriented towards the cavity of the support in one with The use of the piston body and the cavity, so that said piston body is at least partially inserted between the cavity and the capsule in a coupling condition, the compression means comprising a moldable body and sized in such a way that at least a portion of the moldable body is expandable between the capsule and the cutting means in a coupling condition.

The term "coupling condition" should be understood as that condition of use in which the cover contacts the support so that the cover covers the cavity capable of housing a capsule to be filled.
5 Thanks to the above characteristics, a device that allows reusing existing capsules, usually of plastic, is easily, quickly, cleanly, reliably and environmentally friendly. With the device it is possible to place a sheet of suitable composition and configuration, without specific dimensions, since the device itself cuts said sheet to size. The blade once cut can be perfectly molded to the capsule
10 thanks to the compression means without the user having to do it manually, avoiding the risk of spillage. The positioning means allow the capsule to be placed comfortably without having to hold it manually. It prevents the capsule from tipping over and the consequent loss of product and therefore prevents dirtying.
15 The cutting means can make the cut in the appropriate way for each case, circular, rectangular, oval, etc. and the user can place the sheet without giving it that way, since the device is responsible for doing so. For example, if a circular capsule has to be closed, it is especially complex to cut the sheet by hand as is done in the state of the art.
20 The plunger itself allows cutting and wrapping the foil over the capsule that is firmly attached to the device. With a single movement the device automates all the operations of capsule positioning, sheet cutting and closing that until now were done manually.
The fact that the compression means are positioned at least partially in the recess and can come into contact with the sheet, together with the clamping means, facilitates the cutting and subsequent molding of the sheet to the capsule. It is possible to center the cut sheet and that it adapts to the contour of the capsule, making it closed and suitable for
30 its use.
Another advantage of the present invention is that you do not need to use adhesives, since the cut sheet is folded over the flanges where the capsules known in the state of the art are heat sealed.

The invention allows the user to achieve predictable results over and over again with the closure of the capsule by means of the sheet. The exact amount of foil will always be cut and then adapted precisely to the contour of the capsule.
According to one characteristic, the support further comprises a storage receptacle capable of receiving food ingredients and the cover further comprises a widening as a closure for the storage receptacle. In this way, the user can store, for example, ground coffee of one or more mixed classes, which is available quickly and easily.
To further facilitate the filling operation, the support further comprises a smoothing tab associated with the storage receptacle. This advantageously associated flange, that is, oriented towards the receptacle, removes the ground coffee grounds in the capsule that has previously been filled in the storage receptacle, so that the surplus falls back into the receptacle.
According to one characteristic, the support and the cover are linked through a hinge-like joint. This allows to achieve a relative displacement between the support and the cover as if it were a compass to obtain a coupling condition in a simple way. It also contributes to a compact design of the device.
The piston body may comprise a push-button surface at an opposite end to the cutting means. This surface allows the user to apply a force easily to cut and close the sheet on the capsule.
In one embodiment, the cutting means comprise a teeth disposed on an edge of the piston body. This cutting arrangement is advantageous since, with a single movement of the piston body, the blade can be cut to size, and also allows a compact design of the piston body assembly to be obtained. The sheet is cut easily, simply and precisely. The amount of sheet material is fair and necessary, so material losses are avoided. Furthermore, when the shape of the sheet is adjusted, the presence of a surplus of the sheet that "bothers" the user when closed according to the state of the art is avoided with the cutting means.

The elastic means may comprise a crown of elastic material disposed around the piston body or a helical spring arranged around the piston body. The piston body is restored to its resting position after use.
In order to comfortably and surely position the capsule to be closed, the positioning means may comprise a depression or a projection in the base, configured to accommodate, at least partially, and in a tongue-and-groove manner a capsule to be filled.
The fastening means may comprise at least a first rib provided at the upper edges of the side wall and at least a pair of second ribs provided in the piston holder body; said ribs being arranged so that the first rib is positioned between the second ribs in a coupling condition. The fastening means would then be arranged in the cover and in the support. Thus, the previously placed sheet can be easily retained.
Advantageously, the moldable body can be made of foam or gel. Both materials make it possible to fulfill the double function of the compression means, that is to say tensioning the sheet before cutting by the cutting means and at the same time expanding between the side walls of the capsule immediately after cutting and thus getting them to push the overhang leftover foil around the capsule so that it "hugs" around a flange that capsules usually present on the market.
To achieve a compact configuration of a set for filling existing capsules, the present device may have a configuration in which the cavity and the storage receptacle are arranged contiguously in the same plane. In this way the capsule can be filled and immediately closed with a foil. Being in the same plane does not prevent them from being at a different level or even relative inclination.
The sheet to be applied can be advantageously made of aluminum foil. This feature allows the operation of the device of the present invention to be extremely simple with a material available to any consumer and of moderate price compared to disposable filled capsules and solutions that involve the use of pre-cut sheets with the appropriate dimensions for one type. capsule concrete and the use of some

type of adhesive. The aluminum foil also allows it to be punched by the beverage making machine like a capsule coffee maker.
If it is desired to heat seal the sheet to the rest of the capsule that has been filled, the present5 beverage capsule filling device may comprise a device forheat sealing between the cover and the support.
Another object of the present invention is a method of filling beverage capsules, capsules of the type comprising a truncated cone cup linked to a sheet of
The closure, which comprises an ingredient filling stage in which a mouth of the capsule to be filled is oriented towards an ingredient mass and is introduced at least partially into said mass, so that the truncated cone cup is filled with ingredient by the application of a predetermined force on lateral portions of the conical crown.
15 Thanks to these characteristics, the capsule can be filled without the need for any other utensil such as a spoon, funnel or dispenser, it speeds up the process considerably. With a slight pressure the mass of the product can be compacted, at the same time as it adheres by friction to the lateral portions.
20 According to an additional feature and using a capsule filling device as described above, after the ingredient filling stage, the cup is linked to a closure sheet, by placing a sheet between the support and the cover, and the actuation of the body of
25 piston towards the capsule positioned in the cavity in a coupling condition.
Additionally, by actuating the plunger body, the sheet is cut and the subsequent bending of an excess sheet fringe on the cup by the partially expanded compression means 30 between the capsule and the cutting means in a condition of coupling.
Thanks to these characteristics, a method is achieved in which, by means of a single actuation of the piston body, it is possible to hold the sheet firmly, cut it to size and proceed to close it on the capsule.

Advantageously, a sheet of aluminum foil is used. Aluminum foil is a product that is found in virtually every home and allows a relatively low cost. It can perfectly fit the contour of the capsule, and accepts
5 high temperatures
Other features and advantages of the device and method objects of the present invention will be apparent from the description of a preferred, but not exclusive, embodiment illustrated by way of non-limiting example in the accompanying drawings,

DESCRIPTION OF A PREFERRED EMBODIMENT
As shown in the accompanying figures, a preferred but not exclusive embodiment of the beverage capsule filling device of the present invention, designated by reference numeral 1, has been represented. Some elements not visible have been represented with broken lines for reasons of clarity

The attached figures illustrate a filling device 1 of beverage capsules 100. These capsules 100 are of the type comprising a cup 104 linkable with a closure sheet 200. It is known that there are a wide variety of capsule models on the market that vary in shape, capacity, materials, etc., so that any of them could be used in the present invention; nevertheless, and in an exemplary way for the description of the preferred embodiment of the filling device 1, capsules with the conical cup 104 made of aluminum or plastic and with flanges 102 where heat sealing or sealing the capsules 100 available in the market, lateral portions 101 linked to the flanges and a bottom 103 that closes the capsule 100 inferiorly. This bottom 103 has a chamfered circular perimeter. In addition the plant of the capsule 100 in this case will be circular.
Continuing with the description of the filling device 1, it can be seen that it comprises a support 2, which in turn comprises a base 21 linked to a side wall 22 thus defining a cavity 23 capable of accommodating a capsule 100 to be filled. As already mentioned, in this embodiment the capsule 100 is circular in plan, so that the side wall 22 is unique, also circular. In other embodiments, this single sidewall configuration 22 may change to fit the contour of the capsule 100.
The support 2 also comprises positioning means 24 for capsule 100; In this embodiment, the positioning means 24 comprise a depression in the base 21 (see Figure 2) configured to partially accommodate the capsule 100 to be filled. In other cases not illustrated, instead of depression there is a highlight, but in any case they effectively fix the capsule 100, avoiding falls.
The invention also comprises a cover 3 as a cover for said cavity 23, the shape of a part of said cover 3 will be complementary to the contour of the cavity 23, in this case a circular plan. The cover 3 in turn comprises a piston body 41 and a piston holder body 51.
The piston body 41 has an oblong configuration and, in this hollow embodiment, with a recess 42 which in this case is arranged along the entire piston body 41; although in other embodiments not illustrated, said recess 42 will be arranged only partially in the longitudinal direction of the piston body 41.

On the other hand, the piston holder body 51 comprises a free passage 52 or opening in which the piston body 41 is slidably arranged. It is evident that the free passage 52 can take any shape coinciding with the contour of the piston body 41, and in this case the shape is circular. In Figures 3 and 4 it can be seen that between the piston body 41 and the piston holder body 51 there are elastic means 43 that allow the return of the piston body 41 after use. In said figures the elastic means 43 comprise a crown of elastic material disposed around the piston body 41, such as foam. Alternatively (not shown), the elastic means 43 may comprise a helical spring disposed around the piston body 41.
In Figures 7 and 8 it can be seen that fastening means 61, 62 are provided between the piston holder body 51 and upper edges 25 of the side wall 22. These fastening means 61, 62 are configured for fixing a sheet 200 in a coupling condition between the support 2 and the cover 3, as illustrated in Figure 4.
The embodiment shown has fastening means 61, 62 comprising a first rib 61 provided at the upper edge 25 of the side wall 22 and at least a pair of second ribs 62 provided in the piston holder body 51; said ribs being arranged so that the first rib 61 is positioned between the second ribs 62 in a coupling condition. Conversely there may be a pair of first ribs 61 provided at the upper edge 25 of the side wall 22 and a single second rib 62 in the piston holder body 51. In the present case, the predominant configuration of the various components that surrounding the capsule 100 is circular (since the 100 capsules are circular in plan), therefore the first and second ribs 61, 62 describe a circular path seen in plan. In another alternative not illustrated, the fixing means 61, 62 may be arranged only in the support 2 or in the piston holder body 51.
The sheet 200 may be of various materials, although in the present embodiment, aluminum foil is preferred.
Following the description of the present invention, the cover 3 comprises compression means 7 partially disposed within the recess 42 and capable of contacting the sheet 200 in a coupling condition. The compression means 7 comprise a moldable body, sized in such a way that at least a portion

of the moldable body is expandable between the capsule 100 and the cutting means 44 in a coupling condition, as will be seen later. A moldable body should be understood as a body made of a material capable of compressing and easily recovering its original resting form; that is to say a material with optimum adaptability properties. In the present embodiment, the moldable body is made of sponge-shaped foam, although it may alternatively be made of a suitable gel. In any case they will be materials that can be washed as if they were conventional dishes, even if they are not in contact with the food product to be filled.
In FIGS. 3, 4 and 7, cutting means 44 comprised in the piston body 41 are shown, the cutting means 44 are oriented towards the cavity 23 of the support 2 in a condition of use. Preferably, the cutting means 44 comprise a tooth disposed at an edge of the piston body 41, more specifically it is a circular edge of the piston body 41 provided with a sharp teeth to cut the sheet to a predetermined size and shape.
The piston body 41 and the cavity 43 are sized so that said piston body 41 is capable of being partially inserted between the cavity 23 and the capsule 100 in a coupling condition. Thanks to the recess 42 and the adaptability properties of the compression means 7, the piston body 41 is inserted into the cavity 23 surrounding the cutting means 44 to the capsule 100 as will be explained later.
The piston body 41 comprises a surface 45 as a push-button at the opposite end to the end edge on which the plurality of cutting teeth is provided. This surface 45 allows the user to easily apply a PV force to drive the piston body 41, however it is evident to the person skilled in the art that this force can be applied automatically with any means that allow the piston body 41 to be propelled. sliding form through the free passage 52 to introduce said plunger body 41 into the cavity 23.
In order to achieve a filling device 1 with a compact and practical design, the support 2 further comprises a storage receptacle 26 capable of receiving food ingredients, such as a ground coffee product P or any other ground ingredient that can be used to obtain an infusion or similar in a machine

available in the market. The cover 3 further comprises a widening 31 as a closure for the storage receptacle 26. This widening 31 therefore has a complementary configuration with the storage receptacle 26, and in addition a sealing means can be arranged between them to ensure that the P product is maintained in optimal storage conditions. Preferably, the cavity 23 and the storage receptacle 26 are arranged contiguously in the same plane, so that the entire filling and closing operation of the capsule 100 is achieved even more efficiently.
The support 2 further comprises a smoothing flange 27 associated with the storage receptacle 26, preferably disposed between said storage receptacle 26 and the cavity 23. Thus the user can remove the product surplus P from the ground coffee in the path between the storage receptacle 26 and cavity 23.
In Figures 1 and 3, it has been illustrated that the support 2 and the cover 3 are linked through a hinge joint 11. This allows to open the cover 3 and easily access the storage receptacle 26 and the cavity 23.
Although in the present invention, it is not necessary to apply heat or adhesives to achieve a strong bond between the capsule 100 and the sheet 200, if the infusion conditions of the capsule 100 require it, for example at a relatively high pressure
or for reasons of hygiene, the present filling device 1 may comprise a heat sealing device (not shown) between the cover 3 and the support 2.
The material used for the manufacture of the main elements of the invention is plastic, suitable for food use. By way of a variant, for example in cutting means 7, a tooth made of metal can be used.
In order to carry out the filling operation of a capsule 100, preferably with the previous device, a method of filling capsules 100 of beverages can be followed, which comprises an ingredient filling stage in which the mouth of the capsule 100 a filling is oriented towards a mass of ingredient or product P and is partially introduced into said dough, so that the cone-shaped cup 104 is filled with ingredient of product P by applying a predetermined force FL on the side portions 101 of the cup 104 conical trunk This force FL causes the ground product P

adhere to side portions 101 and do not fall by friction. The application of the force FL as well as the correct orientation of the capsule 100 and the clamping thereof can be carried out with suitable technical means for this purpose, not illustrated in the present embodiment. This filling operation is carried out with the cover 3 and the support 2 in a relative non-coupling position as in Figure 3.
After the ingredient filling stage, the cup 104 is linked to a closing sheet 200, by placing a sheet 200 of aluminum foil between the support 2 and the cover 3 (Figure 6A). The aluminum foil must not be circularly cut or any other that the capsule 100 may have. At this stage, the compression means 7 have not yet modified their shape, since they have not contacted the sheet 200. It has passed to a coupling position between the cover 3 and the support 2. When the position of mutual coupling between said elements is reached, the clamping means 61, 62 are already operating on the sheet 200 so that it is trapped and cannot move with respect to the correct position on the capsule 100 to close.
Subsequently, the piston body 41 is driven towards the capsule 100 positioned in the cavity 23 in a coupling condition (Figure 6B); the capsule 100 has been correctly positioned thanks to the positioning means 24. The actuation of the piston body 41 is done by applying a force FV as shown in Figure 6B, and implies that the compression means 7 have already begun to deform since the volume described by the piston body 41 and the sheet 200 not yet cut are reduced. In this way, the sheet 200 is fixed by the clamping means 61, 62 and is tensioned thanks to the action of the moldable body of the compression means 7.
In Figure 6C, the sheet 200 is cut by actuating the piston body 41 with the force FV. This cutting can be carried out in a single operation, facilitated by the cooperation between the clamping means 61, 62 and the compression means 7 on the sheet 200.
At that point the moldable body of the compression means 7 has already begun to expand between the cup 104 and the piston body 41, thereby "pushing" the fringe of sheet 200 that has been generated in excess in the direction of PV regarding the

flanges 102. The contour of the cutting means 44 is greater than the contour of the capsule 100 considering the flanges 102.
During the expansion of the compression means 7, the moldable body tries to recover its initial shape and volume so that it bends the fringe of excess sheet 200 around the entire capsule 100 as can be seen in Figure 6C.
Finally the capsule 100 is filled and with the sheet 200 of silver paper positioned as a closure. The user can now insert the capsule 100 in the corresponding machine to get his drink.
All these steps can basically be summarized in two steps that can easily be performed by a user or even automated means (not shown) and that could include actuation means for the piston body 41, in which the user would only have to operate a button or similar for the system to do the rest. The first stage would be the filling and then the actuation of the piston body 41; They are reduced from four to two.
In the state of the art, that is to say without the present device, four independent actions had to be carried out in the capsule filling process: coffee filling, aluminum foil cutting, positioning of the paper on top of the capsule and closing .
The cutting or die-cutting of aluminum foil and other materials is not easy, since the risk of breakage is evident. The combination of the cutting means 4, which in the present embodiment are an end edge provided with a toothed crown, with the clamping means 61, 62 and the compression means 7, allow the die-cutting of the foil in a circle without risk of breakage
The details, shapes, dimensions and other accessory elements, as well as the materials used in the manufacture of the device of the invention may be conveniently substituted by others that do not depart from the scope defined by the claims set forth below.
